LOS stands for Length Of Service, and a rule that relates to that is one that automatically increases an employee's holiday entitlement when they reach a certain total length of service.

"The time someone dedicates to you, is only fittingly rewarded with time given back"

Those that have dedicated many years of their working lives and careers to your organisation can be recognised with an increase in the amount of annual leave they can take.

Within PeopleHR you can build these rules very flexibly, stating exactly how many months rewards the equivalent additional days of annual leave.

Any additional days an employee will earn through their Length Of Service (LOS) rule will be added on the first day of the new holiday year. 

Example:

  • Rule states that an employee will receive an extra day on top of their entitlement when they have worked for the company for 3 years.
  • Holiday year is January - December.
  • Employee hits their 3rd year anniversary on the 17th September. This will trigger the rule but the extra day will not be awarded until the 1st January.

The LOS rule will only look forward for future trigger points (start date anniversaries). Therefore, when adding this rule to an employee's record, any anniversaries that have already passed, and therefore 'triggered' the additional day, will need to be added to the employee's entitlement manually.

The LOS rule will then automatically add any extra days going forward. 

Example:

  • Rule states that an employee will receive an extra on top of their entitlement for every year that they have worked (Maximum - 25 days)
  • Holiday year is January - December.
  • Employee hits their 3rd year anniversary on the 17th September. The rule was added to the employee's record the day after this 'trigger', therefore is not picked up by the rule.
  • The 3 additional days should be manually added to the employee's entitlement. The newly added LOS rule will look out for future trigger points, in this case, the 4th year.
